QUARANTINE! Stay-at-Home! Lockdown! Shelter-in-Place! Seclusion! Isolation! Whatever you call it – we’ve been doing it the past five weeks due to the Covid-19 pandemic! We had a line-up for the best-ever spring camping break-out . . . and it has all gone down the tubes! Cancelled for April: Work Rally for Wally’s Tree Farm NOVA Haydocy Rally Urban Air in Logan, Ohio Cancelled for May: Grand Prix at the Speedway Time Trial weekend at the Speedway Indianapolis 500 Alumapalooza at Jackson Center Cancelled for June Run for Loveland Caravan Airstream International Rally The verdict is still out for our 8 week vacation from June-August! Tom and I have both stayed busy. When camping opens up, we will have new quilts for the Silvermine. Our quilts don’t match, but they are each a salute to our own tastes! Tom chose a little paper-pieced bear-in-a-tree theme with black bear cubs and brown bear cubs. Surrounding him are traditional Log Cabin blocks with light sides (the good times in life) and dark sides (the down times in life) and the red center square representing the hearth of the home . . . that keeps on burning. (Appropriate for the Pandemic!) When all the blocks were finished, Tom experimented with a multitude of layouts, until achieving his final arrangement. Genius. My quilt is a tribute to the red “salsa” interior in the Silvermine. I began it several years ago, and then it set idle for lack of quilting. I wanted something more than my inevitable stitch-in-the-ditch machine quilting. I finally motivated to finish it up and have it professionally quilted at Heavenly Stitches, an old church-turned-quilt-store with marvelous, prompt, and affordable quilting options. We also got new pillow cases to coordinate with our quilts. The Silvermine will be sportin’ a whole new look in the bedroom! Another quilt project worth mentioning: Some Airstream gal-pals (Carol, Sue, Suzie, and Ella) pieced an awesome quilt with Airstreams butts and flamingoes. It was made for the Urban Air rally, and I guess we’ll all have to wait another year for it to make it’s appearance! Carol was the motivation behind the project, and while all of us paper-pieced the blocks, she put them together, batted, backed, and quilted the whole thing! Here is a 'teaser": the three blocks I made for the quilt! Using the pattern, I made Tom and I a new little flag to fly outside the Silvermine. That's Tom and me in the window drinking our morning coffee! All winter Tom and I were both knee-deep in little woodworking and paper-piecing projects for the “Wake Up Downtown” rally! I guess we'll have to hang on to them for Urban Air 2021! I have another little project that I am pleased to have finished; I wanted a special lanyard for the International Airstream Rally. I was happy to find a paper-pieced pattern! At first I was intimidated by the size of the little blocks – about the size of a postage stamp and all made up of little pieces! But, tiny pieces is what paper-piecing is all about, and once I got going, I was able to make two very different lanyards. I know I’ll have them for future rallies, but I had been so looking forward to flashing them at the International Rally!

We don’t go camping any more . . . we go ‘streamin’ ! The “SIlvermine and His” is our 2018 25' Airstream Serenity with Salsa interior and front twin beds., and ‘streamin’ is the name we use to describe our adventures. Stream along as we document everything from weekend trips to longer summer excursions and full-blown vacations. You know what they say: if you’re not in an Airstream – you’re just camping!
