I declare a "real" camping trip to take place in a beautiful wooded campground (preferably a State park,) surrounded by Silver Family, enjoying potluck dinners, campfires, short shopping excursions to a quaint town, and at least one made-to-order big breakfast. That pretty much describes our recent weekend trip to A.W. Marion State Park. I had never heard of this State Park before, and it gave us the opportunity to thump another State Park off our bucket list and to sew another button on the State Park wall hanging map. Thursday morning, leaving at 8:00, we took the long way and back roads down to Columbus and then another 40 miles south to Circleville, Ohio where we have camped many times before at Deer Creek. This small (309 acre) State Park has electric hook-ups at the sites, water available in the campground, but no shower houses and only pit toilets. Some drizzle continued into the late afternoon, but radar showed that would all pass by us over night. Our first order of business was to establish our headquarters in site #33. We were rapidly joined by Silver Family, up and down the row. Our final tally before the weekend was over was: 19 people, 7 Airstreams, 1 SOB (some other brand), and 1 tent. It didn't take us long to get in the true camping spirit and park ourselves in our camp chairs to enjoy a 3-day visit! In-between visiting there were pot-luck meals, hikes, crafting, shopping, and other excursions. The hallmark of a Silver Family gathering is a pot-luck dinner. A small gathering can generate a meal of unbelievable variety and proportions. This one happened to include a birthday cake and celebration for Abigail. Another standard happening is a bonanza breakfast prepared by Larry on his outdoor, cook-top, kitchen grill. Nothing gets past this grill: bacon, eggs-to-order, hashbrowns, toasted English muffins with homemade cherry preserves, hash, pancakes! If the camp-cooked food was not unique enough, there were also excursions to some exclusive eateries in the area. Loren led us to a food truck that was set up in downtown Circleville where we ate a variety of . . . truck food? Chillicothe is also the home of our favorite diner -- Carl's Townhouse. I've written several times before about how this New York World's Fair diner was moved to Chillicothe, and we always go back when we're in the area. This time we took Larry and Lou! I think that I've given the impression that all we do at a gathering of NOVA and the Silver Family is jump from food line . . . to food line! I'll just leave you with that image hanging in your head . . . until our next rally.

We don’t go camping any more . . . we go ‘streamin’ ! The “SIlvermine and His” is our 2018 25' Airstream Serenity with Salsa interior and front twin beds., and ‘streamin’ is the name we use to describe our adventures. Stream along as we document everything from weekend trips to longer summer excursions and full-blown vacations. You know what they say: if you’re not in an Airstream – you’re just camping!
