Monday, July 27, 2020 It has been exactly one month since we arrived home from our cut-short vacation. In all that time we have not gone camping, although we did spend one night in the driveway! We have been busy cancelling rally reservations and making painful decisions to not attend some camping events. We were ready for a compromise: a secluded little 3-day campout at Harrison Lake State Park – 63 miles from home. The campground was less than half full and we were the only camper on our small loop. Knowing our campsite was not occupied Sunday night, we left early Monday morning and arrived by 11:00 so we could enjoy the whole day. The rain and thunderstorms that threatened the weather forecast did not materialize, although there was a lot of cloud cover. The temperature was a little hot and muggy in the high 80’s, but it was comfortable in the shade, under the awning, with a fan! We cooked hamburgers and walked the dogs and enjoyed sitting outside some more as it got dark, the temperature cooled down, and the humidity lifted. Tuesday, we took advantage of a coolish (66 degree) morning and cooked hash and eggs outside for a late breakfast. The sun reached under the awning, but sitting under the shade of the trees was pleasant as the morning slowly warmed up. By noon we were back under the awning with the fans going – barely a break in napping and reading. Do you see the slothful pattern here? We perked up a bit for an early Cornish-hen/rice pilaf dinner, and an evening campfire and peach pie-iron pies. We headed inside as it got dark . . . after a wonderfully lazy day. Wednesday Tom cooked bacon and pancakes for another late breakfast/brunch. We decided to shake things up with a trip to Hillsdale Michigan, 30 miles away, where we walked the dogs around the beautiful campus. The library had a free book table and I picked up a huge tome on the planning and bomb-dropping on Hiroshima. . . The Day of the Bomb. It has been years since I have held a “real” book in my hands – and this one is hefty! Afternoon: more indolence under the awning and the trees . . . and a few moments with a beautiful rainbow! Supper: Steaks and Scallops! Perfect wind-down to a perfect 3-day get-away. We were home (and unpacked!) by noon. Our next getaway is in two weeks -- a ten-year birthday party for our WBCCI NOVA Unit!

We don’t go camping any more . . . we go ‘streamin’ ! The “SIlvermine and His” is our 2018 25' Airstream Serenity with Salsa interior and front twin beds., and ‘streamin’ is the name we use to describe our adventures. Stream along as we document everything from weekend trips to longer summer excursions and full-blown vacations. You know what they say: if you’re not in an Airstream – you’re just camping!
